Organizing Your Coupons for Advanced

I still use a great box. I have just advanced into a much larger box. I now use the handled Rubbermaid 6 qt Handi-Box. It still fits perfect in the top of a shopping buggy and is especially great, because I can now use regular size letter envelopes with the tops cut off and they fit either way in this box. You can have two rows side by side or one long row. Some times of year, I seem to have a ton of coupons, other times, not so many, so I swap up how I have them laid out in this box a couple of times a year. My categories are much more advanced and detailed now. I still keep a pair of scissors, a pen and a small calculator in my box.

The reason, I split my categories up so much, is I want to be able to go straight to the coupon I am looking for. If my envelope gets too big for a particular category, I will put the envelope in a sandwich size ziplock bag. My Restaurant coupons were in a large ziplock bag, I now have those in a make-up bag. I also have another small make-up bag that I keep other coupons in, such as tanning, home repairs, mall coupons, etc. Plus, I have a purse size coupon pouch that I keep in my purse to put coupons in that I know I am going to use. These are coupons that go with my shopping list or high value coupons that I don't want to forget to use.

Organizing Your Coupons for Beginners

You have to start with a good box. My first coupon box was the small handled Rubbermaid 4 qt Handi-Box. This worked great for me until I outgrew it. It fits in the top of the buggy very well and has a handle which makes it very easy to carry around. The sides lock on very well, so I never feared dropping it. I had a lot of large greeting card envelopes which I sealed and then cut in half as my coupon holders. I used the open side to put my coupons in. I used a bold marker to write on the outside of the envelope what my categories were. The categories I started out with are below in the order that my favorite store at the time was laid out in. Of course, over the years, my favorite store has changed, I have kept this order because I have had it this way for so long, I now know exactly where to go for each envelope. Also, I always have a pair of scissors, a pen and a small calculator in my box.

Holiday Shopping

The majority of the time, shopping IS a pleasure at Publix. I have only had one complaint about a horrible cashier in the past at Publix, that was last Christmas Eve. Well... it's holiday time again! I checked out last night at the Publix in Helena, AL. I went through Wendy's line, she was so frustrated with my coupon usage that she leaned over after she finished checking me out and glared at me and whispered that I was ripping the store off with my coupon usage. She was horrible throughout all of the coupon scanning and had snide comments about each coupon. This does not happen to me often, I am VERY serious about my coupon usage, I make sure every coupon I use is 100% legal and correct! For her to be so ugly to me and try to make me feel like I was doing something wrong flew all over me! I went straight to customer service and had a nice talk with a girl and a guy up there. They were very apologetic. I felt much better after I left, but tell me, why? Why the rudeness, the coupon dollars ARE NOT coming out of her pocket and she is not getting less money for me saving so much! By the way, I saved $109 and only spent $39. Yea me!

It is Christmas Season in Montevallo, AL!

The Christmas Season has officially arrived in Montevallo, AL. Santa Claus arrived on his sleigh tonight and we all got to see! My kids have grown up with the enormousness of Mobile Mardi Gras and had not had the privilege of seeing a small town parade until tonight. It was wonderful, I don't know what I was expecting, but not what I saw! It was so much more personable than Mardi Gras, no fighting, swearing, funny costumes that you hope your children don't see, etc. Don't get me wrong, I will continue to be a Mobile Mardi Gras lover until the day that I die because I grow up so close to the action. (My Daddy was King one year and King Tut another year of The Pharoahs) BUT, I have learned there is nothing like a small town event! This small town that I wanted to have nothing to do with may be starting to grow on me... I am not 'officially' part of this small town, but bumped into at least seven different people that I knew! It is a small world, welcome to the small town!
